Monday 27 May 2013 Naxalites-Just another rebel or Indian Taliban

A couple of days ago, a troop of naxalites attacked a convoy of congress politicians. According to latest numbers 28 people lost their life,3 of them were high profile leaders of country and the party. As the country stands stunned by this incident,I somehow feel that this problem has grown more severe than it should have. the naxals or maoists attacks have not only torn the nation apart several times in last decade but has also raised questions on our internal security. How capable are we in handling usurps on our own land has been an important worry.
What started as a small scale opposition in naxalbari in west Bengal has taken shape of the single biggest terrorist network operating in India. In 2006 the government declared them a terrorist organisation.

It all started when on 18 May 1967, the Siliguri Kishan Sabha, of which Jangal Santhal was the president, declared their support for the movement initiated by Kanu Sanyal and readiness to adopt armed struggle to redistribute land to the landless.[16] The following week, a sharecropper near Naxalbari village was attacked by the landlord's men over a land dispute. On 24 May, when a police team arrived to arrest the peasant leaders, it was ambushed by a group of tribals led by Jangal Santhal, and a police inspector was killed in a hail of arrows. This event encouraged many Santhal tribals and other poor people to join the movement and to start attacking local landlords.

Hereby it can be noted that violence lies in the roots of this organisation. The two leaders found it easier to provoke the landless against the government officials and supplied them with arms and ammunition . Could not they have had their way peacefully? There could have been someway out. In the end they are all Indians, then why the alienation?.
These people under the influence of Maoist philosophies charged against the government violently. Lawlessness is their order.

Moreover does not the scene of an illiterate farmer holding an AK-47 or any other automatic rifle looks familiar?
Isn't this the scene we have been seeing off the taliban front?? Innocent farmers, workers mislead by influential people. Isn't the way it has always worked. One of the major reason I make this comparison is that the out reach of naxalites have grown too far to stop. With More than 10 states suffering from the groups atrocities,it is a national plague which has grown beyond stopping. Their leaders have been called to reach an agreement but every time it fails. It's like they demand a government for themselves alone and they won't surrender. They would kill instead. Kill thousands of innocent people to get their ways, and even if they haven't had their ways I strongly believe they should leave it right there. The thing those villagers don't understand is that it is seldom their leader who looses family but themselves.
A farmer whose religion was to grow crops i patrolling jungles of chhatisgarh with an assault rifle slinging from his shoulder. He gets killed in a raid over a police convoy. Now his young son who might not have gained puberty completely is given the gun,to avenge his father's death. And the cycle goes on. This is exactly how LeT and Taliban's been operating for years. Invoke hatred and fear in simple villagers and get the government to bend it's feet.

I believe their would have been injustice against these people in the initial phase, but does that give them right to pick up arms? Should not have they waited lest attack people who THEY consider to be at fault. It is time that they realise India is a democracy, not a maoist hypocrisy. If war is they want, war they should get. but who is they? aren't 'they" one of us?
